Do you frown at the idea of shelling out hundreds of euros for generic staples? Are you carrying a grudge towards LSS for the high price of singles and lack of reprints? Or perhaps you’re already heavily invested, but are simply up for a challenge? Boy, do I have the deck for you!

Make no mistake. This absolute cheapskate of a deck can certainly pack a punch despite costing around as much as a single copy of Imposing Visage (yeah, that card is in need of a reprint).

Decklist

Equipment

Helm of Safe Haven defends for good numbers. At its core it defends for 2 which is not bad, but to make this card truly sing you should scope out the top deck of your card with Test of Strength, On the Horizon or Fate Foreseen so that you can use the headpiece to add the top card of your deck to the chain link and discard Fiddler’s Green.

Earthlore Bounty has 2 defense value and the text temper on it.

Crater Fist has 2 defense value and the text temper on it.

Boots of Astral Sanctuary is known as the poor man’s Boots of Omnis Ward, and can save your butt from a Flick Knives activation or an attack reaction that’s coming in for 1 more damage than you expected. Not bad! We don’t have many options for the leg slot anyway.

Weapons

Titan’s Fist and shield is a classic combo when you need survivability from your gear. Anothos comes in when you want better efficiency while pitch stacking your specialization cards, when you need to be the aggressor, or when you need squeeze out more damage from your deck in a fatigue battle.

Remember that if you have two blues you can activate Bravo, then attack with Anothos for 6. No Tectonic Plating needed!

Yes, the shield is technically an equipment, not a weapon. Let’s move on.

Deck cards

The deck cards are fairly simple, so I won’t go into too much detail.

Red/Yellow

Bravo never leaves home without Crippling Crush and Star Struck. These absolute haymakers can “time walk” your opponent (a reference to the card “Time Walk” from Magic: The Gathering, which reads “Take an extra turn after this one”).

Aside from the sickest crush cards of all time, we have a defensive suite consisting of Sink Below, Fate Foreseen, Test of Strength, On the Horizon and Fiddler’s Green to stave off whatever our opponent is doing.

Blue

Show time is a neat turn 0 setup card, letting you retrieve a big attack and stash it in the arsenal, while hopefully drawing a pitch worthy card on the next turn to help pay for it. Keep in mind that you can search for and heave Thunder Quake (blue) which sets up an easy 1 card play on the next turn.

Battlefront Bastion is useful against decks utilizing Flick Knives, or who send small attacks for 2 like Phoenix Flame or Harmonized Kodachi.

The rest of the cards are just blue attack action cards you don’t need to think very much about. Sometimes you might play them with dominate if you have nothing better to do, but generally they are just filler cards that win clashes or be put onto the combat chain by Helm of Safe Haven.

Playing the deck

This deck tests your guardian fundamentals and leans quite heavily towards defending a lot while pitch stacking due to the low density of disruptive attacks in the deck. Few decks can deal with dominated Bravo specialization cards back to back!

In matchups where you can’t expect to survive until your pitch stack or your opponent has an overwhelmingly powerful late game, put in some aggressive cards from the sideboard and hope for the best.

Other cards worth considering

Now, now, don’t get too excited. Of course there are lots of pricy cards you could use to upgrade the deck, but that’s not what we’re doing here.

Thunder Quake (red) is a nice Show Time! target since it can be heaved for a nice 1 card 10 attack on your next turn. You only need a single copy to faciliate this.

Edge of their Seats or Tension in the Air could allow you to more reliably land crush by going over equipment blocks and such.

Clash of Might (blue), Clash of Vigor (blue) as well as Test of Might, Test of Vigor can help you scout the top deck for Helm of Safe Haven and Show Time! and give you some incidental rewards.

Nullrune Boots and such for arcane damage matchups. Not included in the main decklist because they’re surprisingly expensive and because those matchups can be quite tricky anyway.

If you are of the belief that Bravo, Showstopper needs to become a Living Legend before LSS will unleash Bravo, Flattering Showman or another new version of Bravo for Classic Constructed, this deck might just be the thing you need. Imagine you were to assemble a briefcase full of copies of this deck. Imagine you brought said briefcase to your local Pro Quest or Road to Nationals event. Who’s to say what could happen?
